MILWAUKEE (AP) — Gio Gonzalez will start for the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1 of the NL Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.Brewers manager Craig Counsell announced his rotation on Thursday. Gonzalez was 3-0 with a 2.13 ERA in five starts for the Brewers after being acquired in a deal with the Washington Nationals. The Brewers have chosen Wade Miley to start in Game 2 on Saturday Trea Turner Jersey , meaning that Milwaukee will open the NLCS with two straight lefties. The Dodgers will line up the same way. They had already picked ace left-hander Clayton Kershaw as their starter for the opener.Manager Dave Roberts on Thursday night said lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu will be his Game 2 starter.Brewers right-hander Jhoulys Chacin will go in Game 3 on Monday in Los Angeles against Dodgers right-hander Walker Buehler.Roberts said he will turn to left-hander Rich Hill to start Game 4. The Philadelphia Phillies appear likely to sign one of either Manny Machado or Bryce Harper this offseason, as the market has been surprisingly cool for the pair of superstars. But the ultimate hope in Philadelphia, that the team will somehow sign both, remains a pipe dream.According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, "League sources insisted the Phillies have made this much clear during negotiations: They will not sign both players."There are obviously no guarantees that Philadelphia will land either player http://www.nationalsfanproshop.com/authentic-matt-adams-jersey , though as Gelb reported, "multiple league sources indicated the Phillies' risk of losing out on both stars is mitigated by the apparent lack of interested teams throughout Major League Baseball and the club's financial wherewithal."In other words, owner John Middleton's comments in November have given the Phillies leverage."We're going into this expecting to spend money," Middleton told Bob Nightengale of USA Today. "And maybe even be a little bit stupid about it."That means both Machado and Harper are likely to check in on Philadelphia even if they get an offer elsewhere, to see if the Phillies will give them even more money. That keeps Philadelphia in the running for both players Joe Blanton Jersey , and the Phillies to this point can essentially leverage Machado and Harper against one another. Why offer an obscene amount of money for one player while still in negotiations with the other? Why set the market high for either player when they could respond to the market as it develops?Of course, the team's leverage would diminish if one of the players signed with another team. Then, the Phillies would likely find themselves in a bidding war for the other player. And there's a risk in turning off either player by waiting rather than aggressively pursuing them with a big offer. The question remains which player would the Phillies pick between the two. According to Gelb, "The Phillies are believed to prefer Machado over Harper because he is an elite hitter and defender, but conflicting information has spread from team to team and agent to agent."Conflicting information is the name of the game this time of year.Bob Nightengale BNightengalePhiladelphia #Phillies emerge as clear-cut favorite to land Bryce Harper after 5-hour meeting. Optimism is high. 0j5B5Pu2GgBut at this point http://www.nationalsfanproshop.com/authentic-matt-adams-jersey , the team could desperately use either player. The Phillies lack star power, for one, and while they have a solid team in place, they don't yet have a position player to truly build around. Either Machado or Harper would fill that role and then some, invigorating the fanbase in the process. The Phillies have largely been an afterthought since the heady days of Chase Utley http://www.nationalsfanproshop.com/authentic-matt-adams-jersey , Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, Cole Hamels and Roy Halladay. This winter, they're once again at the center of the baseball world. But for now, it's a waiting game. And as Gelb noted Wilmer Difo Jersey , it might remain that way well into February, to the chagrin of both the fans and players.

The Cleveland Indians have exercised pitcher Carlos Carrasco's $9.75 million team option for the 2019 season http://www.rockiesfanproshop.com/authentic-chad-bettis-jersey , according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. The club confirmed the news.Per Bastian, the club also declined outfielder Brandon Guyer's $3 million option, instead paying a $250,000 buyout. The 32-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent.Carrasco has turned into one of baseball's best bargains since he signed afour-year, $22 million extensionin April 2015. In those four seasons, the right-hander has gone 60-36 with a 3.40 ERA in 119 games. He has thrown 183-plus innings in three of the past four years, including 200 in 2017.The 31-year-old went 17-10 with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP in 32 games (30 starts), striking out a career-high 231 in 192 innings. He posted a 2.52 ERA in 14 games (13 starts) after the All-Star break. Not only has he had regular-season success, but he has also shown up on the big stage. He has allowed just two runs in 11 innings over two postseason starts http://www.rockiesfanproshop.com/authentic-chad-bettis-jersey , including a 2017 outing in which he shut out the New York Yankees for 5.2 frames while allowing just three hits and striking out seven.Carrasco's emergence has given Cleveland one of the best rotations in baseball. Headlined by Carrasco, two-time American League Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber and 2018 AL All-Star Trevor Bauer, the Indians rotationrankedthird in the majors with a 3.39 ERA and ranked second to only the Houston Astros in strikeouts.Meanwhile, ClevelandacquiredGuyerin a 2016 trade-deadline deal. He later re-signed on atwo-year contract, which included a club option. He hit .206 with seven home runs, 11 doubles and 27 RBI in 103 games in 2018.While his numbers may not jump off the page, Guyer will best be remembered in Cleveland for his performance during the 2016 playoffs. As the Indians made a run to the World Series, he posted a .333 average with one double, six runs and three RBI in 10 appearances. LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers now have multiple reasons to feel optimistic Wade Davis Jersey , rallying for a victory Friday over the team they are chasing in the standings while knowing ace Clayton Kershaw is on the mound Saturday. The situation started to look discouraging for the Dodgers, who had lost to the Diamondbacks on Thursday to fall two games back in the division, while sitting in third place. But late home runs from Enrique Hernandez and Justin Turner on Friday gave the Dodgers a 3-2 victory and moved them into second place.A gem from their staff ace on Saturday would move the Dodgers up another rung on the NL West ladder. The Dodgers are one game behind the Diamondbacks and the teams would be sharing the top spot with a Los Angeles victory in the third game of the series.Article continues below ...The Dodgers originally had Kershaw (6-5, 2.39 ERA) scheduled to pitch in Friday’s game, but moved the left-hander to Saturday so they could line up their No. 1 starter in a series next week against another division contender, the Colorado Rockies.Despite two stints on the disabled list this season and just six victories heading into the final month, Kershaw has looked dominating since coming off the DL on June 23. He is 5-1 with a 2.15 ERA in 12 starts since then, and has not given up more than two earned runs in any of his last seven outings. He is 15-9 lifetime against Arizona with a 2.53 ERA in 29 starts.Kershaw has started three games against the Diamondbacks this season, and is 1-1 with a 2.37 ERA in those contests. The Diamondbacks will counter with a left-hander of their own as Patrick Corbin (10-5 http://www.rockiesfanproshop.com/authentic-chad-bettis-jersey , 3.15) will take the mound. Corbin has also pitched well of late, delivering five consecutive quality starts, going 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA in that stretch, with a .213 opponents’ batting average.Even more promising for the Diamondbacks is that Corbin has a 0.98 ERA in three starts against the Dodgers this season. The Dodgers are hitting just .115 against him in those games and have struck out 24 times. He is just 1-0 in those three starts.Corbin’s career numbers against Los Angeles are not as good, however. He is 4-9 with a 3.78 ERA in 19 career appearances (17 starts) against the Dodgers.Corbin gave up just two runs over seven innings Monday at San Francisco, but Arizona ended the day with a 2-0 defeat.“He’s only got 10 wins on the year,” Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed said about Corbin, according to mlb.com. “That’s our fault as an offense for not giving him enough runs. He’s pitched good enough to easily have 15, 16 wins for us. We did it again (Monday) Adam Ottavino Jersey , didn’t score, so hopefully we turn that around these few starts.”One more reason for the Dodgers to feel good heading into Saturday’s game is that closer Kenley Jansen finally looks like himself again. Jansen had a short disabled-list stint in August because of an irregular heartbeat.Upon his return, he gave up a run in four consecutive outings, losing two games and blowing a save in another. But even while giving up a double in the ninth inning to Paul Goldschmidt on Friday, Jansen looked to be in control for the first time in over three weeks.“It was so much better,” said Jansen, who credited a mechanical adjustment for his improvement. “It was me throwing with my lower body and that’s how I did it, let my lower body carry me to home plate. I felt so much better.”“

Jon Durr/Getty ImagesChicago Cubs third basemanDavid Bote apologized for his bat flip a day after hitting a walk-off grand slam against the Washington Nationals."I didn't even realize I did it until I saw it on the replay. ... I meant no disrespect by any means. It was the heat of the moment http://www.whitesoxfanproshop.com/authentic-paul-konerko-jersey ," Bote said Monday, per 670 The Score.Bote got his first career walk-off hit and first grand slam while facing Ryan Madson on national television Sunday night, giving the Cubs a 4-3 win. The homer was perhaps the most dramatic of the season, with the Cubs down to their final strike.Bote got his first career walk-off hit and first grand slam while facing Ryan Madson on national television Sunday night, giving the Cubs a 4-3 win. The homer was perhaps the most dramatic of the season Miguel Gonzalez Jersey , with the Cubs down to their final strike. This is one of those apologies that no one outside of baseball's strange unwritten rule culture could understand. Bote's bat flip was mild and came after the biggest play of his young career. Celebrations are a part of every other sport's culture; Bote barely reacted more than Brooks Koepka did winning the PGA Championship earlier in the day.Bote is the only 29th player in MLB history to hit a walk-off grand slam, perBaseball Almanac. There was ample reason to throw his arms up in the air with glee.No Nationals players seemed particularly upset about the celebration, either. But I guess when the potential of seeing a 95 mph projectile coming at you high and tight is weighing on your mind, you'll apologize for just about anything.Note to baseball: More bat flips, less beanballs. Thanks. OAKLAND Tim Anderson Jersey , Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Athletics plan to discuss a contract extension with manager Bob Melvin this offseason as well as possible new deals with home run leader Khris Davis and All-Star second baseman Jed Lowrie. Two days after the A’s lost to the New York Yankees in a wild-card game, team officials began mapping out the framework for 2019 with hopes of capitalizing on the team’s first playoff appearance in four years.Signing Melvin, Oakland’s manager since 2011, to an extension is high on the list of things to do. He’s currently signed through the 2019 season.“Bob’s one of the best in the game and he’s perfect for us,” said Executive Vice President Billy Beane http://www.whitesoxfanproshop.com/authentic-paul-konerko-jersey , who appeared before reporters Friday along with Melvin and general manager David Forst. “The idea is that he’s here for a long time and the rest of his career. Our feeling is that Bob’s the right guy for this club and should be going forward. (That’s) another question that we hope to have answered in the offseason.”The A’s playoff appearance was the fourth in eight seasons under Melvin. Oakland’s 97-65 record was also the best mark of Melvin’s managerial career. The 56-year-old skipper said he still hasn’t gotten over the wild-card loss to the Yankees but is optimistic about Oakland’s prospects for next season.“As impressive as some of these younger players were, we feel like they can even get better so I’m excited about where we’re going from here,” Melvin said. “I expect us to have results again next year. Obviously, we’re going to have to add some pieces and make some decisions on some free agents but I’m really excited about where this team’s going.”Davis isn’t scheduled to be a free agent until after the 2019 season but the A’s are hopeful of getting the slugger inked to a long-term deal before then.Davis led the majors with 48 home runs this year, his third consecutive season with 40-plus homers.“We’ve had some preliminary conversations about keeping him around longer (than 2019) Welington Castillo Jersey ,” Beane said. “That’ll be part of the conversations that David, myself and Bob and the rest of the staff have.”Lowrie’s situation is more uncertain despite his first All-Star appearance. The veteran infielder hit .267 with a career-high 23 home runs and 99 RBIs and was a key influence inside Oakland’s mostly young clubhouse. But Lowrie turns 35 next April and the A’s may be tempted to go with Franklin Barreto, their young prospect who hit five home runs with 16 RBIs in 73 at-bats.“I’m happy with the year that I had and I feel like I’m going to go into the offseason and hopefully be in a good position,” Lowrie said, adding he’s open to returning to the A’s. “Free agency can be funny so you just go into it with an open mind. We’ll talk with my agent and we’ll be prepared for situations that arise.”Catcher Jonathan Lucroy is also scheduled to become a free agent. Forst said the A’s are open to retaining both Lowrie and Lucroy.“Jed and (Lucroy) were huge for what we did David Ross Jersey ,” Forst said. “Obviously, both of those guys will be part of our conversations over the next month.”__

Rob Carr/Getty ImagesWashington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper was forced to leave Saturday's game against the Cincinnati Reds with an apparent right leg injury after he was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning.Harper trotted out to his post in right field the following inning Chad Pinder Jersey , but as MLB.com's Jamal Collier noted, he was limping and had to be removed.Adam Eaton replaced him in the lineup.Harper flirted with disaster last August when he suffered a significant bone bruise in his left knee against the San Francisco Giants. However, he avoided ligament or tendon damage and worked his way back to 100 percent fitness in time for the playoffs.Entering Saturday, the six-time All-Star was slashing .230/.377/.492 with 26 home runs and 67 RBI. He's also logged 2.3 offensive wins above replacement, according to Baseball Reference.Needless to say, that kind of power can't be replaced by another outfielder on the Nationals roster. In the meantime, Eaton鈥攚ho is hitting .301 this season鈥攕hould occupy Harper's usual spot in the corner of Washington's outfield. FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Alex Cora guided the Boston Red Sox to a franchise-record 108 wins and a World Series victory last season, and then he reported to his second spring training as a major league manager as if nothing had changed.Still just 43, Cora has a chance to be the first Red Sox manager to win back-to-back championships in more than 100 years. And he’s approaching it with the same http://www.athleticsfanproshop.com/authentic-khris-davis-jersey , unruffled demeanor as when he was a rookie.“I think that’s why we were so consistent last year,” utilityman Brock Holt said this week as the team made the transition from workouts to the exhibition season.“If we won, we came in here, turned the music on, showered, went home. If we lost, we didn’t turn the music on,” Holt said. “That’s what helped us to be so consistent. It wasn’t any different; there was no panic. He stayed with his plan.”A native of Puerto Rico who is the first minority manager in franchise history and one of the youngest ever to run the Red Sox dugout, Cora didn’t need much time to figure things out in Boston. After losing their opener, they won nine straight games and 17 of the next 18.They finished the regular season 108-54 — the best record in franchise history Blake Treinen Jersey , and eight games ahead of the rival Yankees. They never lost more than three in a row, and their worst stretch of six losses in eight games came in August after they were already 50 games above .500 with a double-digit lead in the division.Through it all, Cora never changed.“Over the course of 162 games, things aren’t always going to go well,” outfielder Andrew Benintendi said. “He stayed even-keeled.”But never distant. While some managers looked at the clubhouse as the players’ domain, Cora will be out among them, joking around or just checking in. It doesn’t hurt that he is only eight years older than first baseman Steve Pearce, and was teammates with second baseman Dustin Pedroia on the Boston team that won it all in 2007.Holt called Cora “one of the smartest baseball people” he’s met, and noted that the manager’s ability to speak both Spanish and English also helps him relate to many of the team’s Hispanic players.“He’s one of the best communicators I’ve ever been around in the game,” Holt said. “As players Chris Hatcher Jersey , we always know what to expect, what we need to do. You see him in here, joking around with guys. He talks to everyone. I enjoy being around someone who enjoys being around us.”The season-long effort to communicate paid off after Game 3 of the AL Division Series against the Yankees, when Holt became the first player in major league history to hit for the cycle in a postseason game.Cora texted him that night to say he would be benched for Game 4 in favor of Ian Kinsler.“I expected it before it even happened,” Holt said. “I didn’t think anything about it. We all knew what’s happening, and what we were trying to do.”Kinsler doubled in the game’s first run and the Red Sox advanced to the AL Championship Series. And Holt was back in the lineup for Game 1 against the Houston Astros. Boston lost that one before winning the next six games, taking a 2-0 lead in the World Series before the Dodgers slowed them down with an 18-inning victory in Game 3. The Red Sox finished Los Angeles off in five games.Cora is the fifth Red Sox manager to win it all in his first season in Boston, but the first ever to win as a managerial rookie. His .667 winning percentage is also the best in franchise history.Asked this week if there was anything he learned last year that he would do differently in his second season, Cora noted that it was coach Ramon Vazquez’s wife’s birthday, and that was an unexpected setback for the staff in 2018.“He forgot about it last year http://www.athleticsfanproshop.com/authentic-khris-davis-jersey ,” Cora said with a laugh. “So we made a point to FaceTime her. She’s in California, and we have a cake and balloons and everything. So we’re making adjustments on the fly.“We made sure he didn’t forget this year,” Cora said. “Yeah, I mean, teamwork.”

Snap Reactions: Notes on the Seahawks’ snap counts from Sunday’s loss to the Rams Despite putting together one of their most impressive performances of the season Youth Ethan Pocic Jersey , the Seattle Seahawks came up short against the L.A. Rams, losing 33-31. Heading into Sunday, there was usage worth tracking on both sides of the ball: Tedric Thompson’s first start, Austin Calitro back in the lineup, Frank Clark battling illness or George Fant’s role as an eligible receiver. We received clarity on the majority of those topics on Sunday. Check out the snap counts below, and we’ll highlight some points of interest: George Fant as an eligible receiverIn the lead up to Seahawks-Rams, Russell Wilson let it slip that Fant would have a significant role to play. It made sense, with Will Dissly done for the season and a fearsome L.A. front coming into town. The Rams defense wasn’t allowed to completely takeover the game, while Fant played sparingly. In total, Fant came in as an eligible receiver on 12 plays (though the NFL’s play-by-play data credits him for just 11). The 11 plays he is marked as eligible resulted in 34 yards on eight carries, and 2-3 passing, 42 yards and a touchdown for Wilson. The use of Fant as an extra blocker was a pleasant sign of Seattle being proactive in a matchup they have been blown out of all too often. He wasn’t used as often as expected, but Fant’s usage on Sunday was a success. Rashaad Penny’s single snapThere isn’t all too much to add here, but it has to be mentioned. With C.J. Prosise inactive, Mike Davis coming off a big game and Chris Carson returning, Penny saw his snaps drop to just one single snap. On special teams. As one of the three deep on a return. And he didn’t get the ball. Frank Clark again proving athletes aren’t regular peopleEarlier on Monday, I wrote about Clark’s week leading up to Sunday’s loss. It included being hospitalized twice and losing 12 pounds. I mentioned that it seemed as though the week caught up to Clark in the 4th quarter, as he was on the field sparingly. Turns out, the first three quarters more than made up for it. Clark played 82% of the defense’s snaps on Sunday, right around where he was the past couple weeks and where he will be moving forward. In the aforementioned article Youth Rashaad Penny Jersey , I also mentioned how a transatlantic flight on Wednesday may not be conducive to Clark’s recovery from food poisoning. I don’t think we need to worry about that affecting Clark anymore, as he is not human.David Moore’s arrival in the offenseWeek 5 saw Moore become a mainstay in the Seahawks’ three wide receiver sets for the first time this season. He rewarded their faith with two touchdowns and should see his role continue in the next couple weeks. After battling with Brandon Marshall and Jaron Brown for snaps out of the gate, that battle is over. Marshall has essentially been wiped out of the offense, playing just 12% of the offense’s snaps. Moore’s rise over Marshall was perfectly encapsulated during a third down on Sunday: Marshall came onto the field, a TV timeout was called and when it was time to run the third down, Moore had replaced Marshall again. Brown, meanwhile, saw more snaps than Marshall at 15%. The clock is ticking on Marshall’s time in Seattle. Barkevious Mingo as the 2nd linebackerAn area of concern for the Seahawks heading into Sunday was Austin Calitro, coming back into the lineup following Mychal Kendricks’ suspension. In my pregame column, I wrote about how dangerous the Rams’ offense can be for a linebacker. Seattle, again proactive in their preparation for L.A., worked around those issues by leaning on Mingo as the second linebacker next to Bobby Wagner. Mingo is more comfortable in space and was less likely to be exploited than Calitro. By the end of the game, Mingo had played a season-high 97% of the defense’s snaps, while Calitro played just 6%. A week after Anthony Barr allowed over 100 yards in coverage against the Rams, the Seahawks didn’t allow the same to happen to their ‘backers. They deserve credit. Seattle has a strange week ahead of them, with a trip to London condensing everything. Following the flight overseas and the extra hype in the lead up to Sunday’s game, the Seahawks will play the Raiders at 10 am PST. With only the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl left before the 2018 NFL season comes to a close, fans of the Seattle Seahawks have long since turned their attention to the upcoming frenzies of free agency and the draft. Obviously there are a lot of internal matters which the team could address in the coming weeks, including potentially retaining their own free agents such as Frank Clark (gonna do it), Justin Coleman (highly probable) and Earl Thomas (not happening) http://www.authenticsseattleseahawks.co … son-jersey , but in the meantime we get to speculate wildly about how a bunch of college kids who have never played a snap in the NFL are going to come in and contribute in a major way in 2019. To that end, Field Gulls film breakdown master Matty F. Brown is in Mobile for the Senior Bowl this week taking an early gander at some of the players who could have their names called by the Seahawks in Nashville in April. However, in the meantime we get to speculate wildly while we wait for the underwear Olympics in Indianapolis at the end of February. As we wait, we are left to fill our time watching highlights and gobbling up the bits of news that dribble out here and there. On that note, yesterday the following clip of multiple receivers at Kansas State University was posted to Twitter, and it of course includes the Hawks 2018 breakout star, Tyler Lockett. However, Tyler isn’t the only Lockett in the tape, as it also includes some highlights of both his uncle, Aaron Lockett, and his dad, Kevin Lockett. It also includes multiple other players who have found some level of success in the NFL, including names such as Jordy Nelson, Brandon Banks and Quincy Morgan. However, in watching the string of highlights and the names that come through, one thing that jumps out is how many of these Wildcat receivers have ties to Hawks GM John Schneider. Schneider, of course, was involved in the selection of the aforementioned Tyler Lockett in 2015 by the Seahawks, but Tyler wasn’t the first receiver Schneider tried to bring to Seattle from K-State. Two years prior to selecting Lockett in the third round, Schneider had used a fourth round pick to draft Chris Harper. Harper never caught on at any of his stops with various NFL teams http://www.authenticsseattleseahawks.co … own-jersey , but it grabbed my attention and forced me to watch the clip all the way to the finish. In the video, there are 13 different receivers shown, and John Schneider was involved with the drafting of four of them. In reverse order of the selections, the following are the ones in which Schneider was involved:Tyler Lockett, 2015, Seattle Seahawks (3.69 - 2015)Chris Harper, 2013, Seattle Seahawks (4.123 - 2013)Jordy Nelson, 2008, Green Bay Packers (2.36 - 2008)Kevin Lockett, 1997, Kansas City Chiefs (2.47 - 1997)That is certainly interesting, but what is even more remarkable is that many of the receivers shown in the video went undrafted. The names that were not drafted are the following: Byron PringleCurry SextonTramaine ThompsonBrandon BanksJames TerryThat leaves just four other receivers in the video who were drafted, and those were: Taco Wallace - Seattle Seahawks (7.224 - 2003)Aaron Lockett - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7.254 - 2002)Quincy Morgan - Cleveland Browns (2.33 - 2001)Darnell McDonald - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7.240 - 1999)That puts it in a situation where ten separate wide receivers out of Kansas State have been drafted in the past twenty five years, and John Schneider has been involving in the drafting of four of them. Now, there aren’t slated to be any receivers from K-State in the draft this spring, but it’s certainly an interesting tidbit to store away in the back of the big brain on Brad, and gives us something else to think about as we whittle away the months until training camp opens in July. (Which should be in twenty weeks and one day, in case you were wondering.)

Broncos vs. Vikings: 4 winners Youth Darian Stewart Jersey , 3 losers from the first preseason game The good news is the Denver Broncos won’t go undefeated in the preseason. In fact, the six-game winning streak in exhibition games is over. The first preseason game looked like the first preseason game, with some winners and losers. Here are some of them from the Broncos 42-28 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Winners Royce Freeman Denver’s rookie running back carried over his strong play in training camp to his first game. His 23-yard touchdown run was impressive. Some felt Freeman should have been No. 1 on the running back depth chart coming into Saturday’s game, he should after this performance.Jeff Holland As if the Broncos needed anymore pass rushers on defense, but Holland showing like he did makes the Orange Rush even more daunting (rock this vintage shirt with a modern twist). Remember: He was undrafted. Holland’s strength and burst will be hard to block, especially if he’s on the field with the likes of Von Miller and Bradley Chubb.Marquette King Denver’s new punter, and his leg, definitely got some work. While the offense left a lot to be desired, to say the least, the good news is the Broncos have a punter. The more he gets acclimated to kicking at altitude, the better he’ll get. Isaiah McKenzie For his wow moment of the night http://www.authenticsdenverbroncos.com/ … ern-jersey , a 78-yard punt return for a touchdown. It may not be enough for some to forgive his fumbles, but it’s a great way to warm them up; especially if he’s consistent.LosersPaxton Lynch The time has come for John Elway and the organization to move on. How Lynch has looked at camp, he looked against the Vikings— awful, and that’s being kind. He’s a wreck mentally and he has no confidence. For those holding out hope he would “get it,” it won’t happen; at least not in Denver. Better to cut bait, admit the mistake, and move on.First-team defense/offenseThis is the most disappointing aspect of the preseason opener for the Broncos. Both looked lethargic and ill-prepared. That is a 180 to what the team has looked like in practice. It’s too early to panic given this was the first preseason game, and at least for the defense Miller didn’t even play. But it is something to keep an eye on as the preseason moves forward.Devontae Booker This is a combination of how he looked on the field, but also Freeman. Booker looked and played like the same running back ... one who doesn’t trust himself, lacks vision and runs with happy feet. Yes, Booker only had two carries but that was enough. Will the Denver Broncos keep their 28-year win-streak alive against the Cleveland Browns? Baker Mayfield has come on strong in late in the season and may have given Cleveland that swagger they’ve been missing for decades. Tight ends have presented a problem for the boys in orange and blue White Case Keenum Jersey , so what does that mean for the Browns tight end David Njoku? Can Nick Chubb steal the Chubb spotlight from Denver’s breakout rookie, Bradley?Laurie, Tim, and Jess delve into the current state of the Denver Broncos following the debacle in San Francisco against the 49ers and make predictions about Saturday’s game. Confidence was shaken when 49ers TE George Kittle rang up 200+ on the storied Denver defense, but does that mean it’s time to finally throw dirt on the 2018 season?Did you hear that Al Wilson is going to be the honorary team captain on Saturday? How great is it that Al is back in the Broncos fold? It’s time to take a look at why Al Wilson deserves induction into the Broncos ring of fame. It’s long overdue.Laurie, Tim and I are having a blast with our new podcast, Something Something Broncos. We hope you’re enjoying it too! If you haven’t checked it out yet, give it a listen!

There were failures in all four phases of the game on Sunday. Yes Authentic Chris Harris Jr Jersey , I said four phases: offense, defense, special teams and coaching. I’ll go in depth into a few of the coaching mistakes later. The frustrating part about the 2018 Broncos is that the talent is there to be a playoff team, but the coaches are generally not putting the talent in positions to succeed. This team is 3-5, but could easily be 6-2 or 7-1 - with better coaching (and better QB). I’ll call out three examples from last game - one from each phase. Remember that our coaches had extra time to prepare for this game after the mini-bye that we got from playing a Thursday night game. On special teams I am not going to rail on Cody Wadman. Yes, he had a 19 yard punt that completely demoralized the team, but that is not on the coaches. The special teams coaching fail was not telling Adam Jones to accept a touchback if the kickoff goes into the endzone. Touchbacks on kickoffs give the offense the ball on the 25, so any time a returner does not make it to the 25, they have made it harder on the offense. Adam Jones returned three kickoffs in the game: the first he caught five yards deep and returned to the 19, the second he caught at the one and returned to the 26 and the third he caught a yard deep and returned to the 19. So left 12 yards on the field by not accepting the touchbacks. Yes, 12 yards seems like a small thing, but his decision are symptomatic of a team that is not well coached. Holding happens often on kickoff and punt returns, and while we did not get flagged for holding on any of the kickoffs that were returned in this game, our offense is not great at digging itself out of deep holes. If Adam Jones had the ability to return kickoffs for huge yardage (or TDs) then the risk of a hold or a turnover might be worth it, but he has never returned a kickoff for a TD (and hasn’t returned a punt for a TD since 2012). So he should accept the touchbacks when he/we can. The defensive coaching failure that I noticed was the confusion and unwillingness to call a timeout in the first half when Todd Davis was somehow left to cover Sammy Watkins in the red zone. The defensive coaches need to realize this and get a timeout called. Timeouts are not that precious in the first half as to allow something this glaring of a mismatch to occur. On offense the coaching mistake was the flea-flicker that was intercepted. I understand that Bill Musgrave was just trying to spark the offense with the team down 10 in the 4th quarter, but the offensive coaches have to coach Case Keenum to throw that ball away if the receiver is not wide open. Again, you could say that the failure was on Keenum there and not on Bill Musgrave, but I disagree. Musgrave made the play call and Keenum needed to be coached to know his limitations on that play. He doesn’t have the arm to make that throw and Kendall Fuller took advantage. Remember, the situation that the led to the play. The Broncos had forced a punt and gotten the ball back on the 20. We had run Phillip Lindsay three straight times for gains of 11, 5 and 5 yards. We were moving the ball on the ground and were at our 41 with 8 minutes and 8 seconds to play in the game down 10. There was no reason to run a trick play there. A simple play action probably would have worked well given that we had run the ball successfully three plays in a row. So now on to the normal focus of my weekly article. The defense was actually quite good at stopping the run on first down for the second straight week. The Chiefs ran the ball 10 times on first down for 29 yards (2.90 ypc). Overall we held the Chiefs to 49 yards on 18 carries - 2.72 ypc. It does not take much to get Andy Reid to abandon the run. Overall the Broncos have allowed 5.23 ypc on first down runs - still 30th. KC is still dead last at 5.72 - cold comfort. Houston lead the league allowing only 3.33 ypc on first down runs. We forced the Chiefs into eight 3rd & long situations and they were able to convert two of them. KC only faced 10 third downs in the game. Both conversions came on the Chief’s opening drive of the 3rd quarter that ended in the touchdown to put them up 23-14. The Broncos are now 26th in the league at stopping opponents on 3rd and long - allowing conversion 31.5% of the time. MIN is currently best in the league having only allowed 7 conversion on 50 3rd and long attempts - 14.0%. The Rams are still dead last allowing 40.9% conversion on 3rd and long. FWIW offensively the Broncos are now 24th in terms of converting on 3rd and long - 21.3% and we have allowed 10 sacks in 3rd and long situations (2nd worst in the league) and four of those sacks have led to fumbles. Right now, this team is in the bottom third of the league. Talent-wise this team could make the playoffs in the weak AFC with better coaching and better QB play Youth Emmanuel Sanders Jersey , but I don’t expect to see much of either from the Broncos this year - not based upon the first 8 games. Case Keenum has regressed to his historical form. Halfway through the season he has 11 TD passes (plus a rushing TD) and 10 INTs. If he continues on that pace in the second half of the season, he will become the first Denver QB to throw 20 INTs in a season since Jake Plummer did it in 2004. The only other Bronco QB to do it after the merger was John Elway in 1985. That was the only season that Elway threw 20 or more INTs (he threw 23 that year). Frank Tripucka (thrice), Jackie Lee and George Herring also had seasons with 20 or more interceptions thrown prior to the merger. I could reminisce all day about Denver Broncos great, and Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist, Steve Atwater’s playing career. In fact, Mile High Report has done just that every day for three weeks. Today, we take a slightly different approach. I’m not going to talk about his crushing hit on Christian Okoye. I won’t regale you with tales of his final play of Super Bowl XXXII where he knocked everybody out. Nor will I break down the most important play of that game, his strip sack of Brett Favre. We’ve covered all that. If those plays, and his career, don’t speak for themselves, then the Hall of Fame voters are blind. Instead, I’m going to tell you about a man who is deserving of the Hall based on his character, love of the game, and love of the Broncos organization. Perhaps the best thing that has come out of MHR’s relationship with Orange and Blue 760 is the opportunity I have had to speak to Atwater outside of football. He is kind, humble, and genuinely loves the his role with the Broncos today. If I could offer a short story, we recently had Atwater on the MHR Radio Podcast. It was on a day that snowed in Denver. When he jumped on to record with Ian St. Clair and me, he said he almost missed our email letting him know that we were ready to start because he was out shoveling snow with his boys. I joked, “Steve, isn’t that why we have kids, so they can get that stuff done for us?”“You gotta lead by example http://www.broncosauthorizedshops.com/a … say-jersey , Adam.” Did I just learn a life lesson from Steve Atwater while joking around before recording our podcast? Here’s the thing — I already knew that. However, it speaks to the character of the man. Of course he could have his boys do the work, but he lives like he played.Steve was always moving and always working. He told Ian and me a story on the podcast about a play that stuck with him from his college days. An opposing player appeared to be tackled, and he let up. Instead of the play being over, the player broke free and scored a touchdown. Atwater never let that feeling happen again. He never wanted to give up on a play like that again. And so, on the field and off, he has been a consummate professional. He is a great representative of the organization, and truly cares about the fans. Patrick Smyth, executive vice president of public and community relations for the Broncos, said the same about the legend who walks around Dove Valley and could not be any more humble.“From his modesty and humility, you’d have no idea Steve was an eight-time Pro Bowler, two-time Super Bowl champion and one of the greatest safeties in NFL history,” Smyth told MHR. “He’s truly one of the nicest, kindest people you could ever meet. Steve’s just an incredible ambassador for the Broncos, the community and the game of football.”I get it. This is a bit of a puff piece. It blows me away that a kid from Greeley who grew up in the 1980s and 90s even gets the chance to get to know Steve Atwater just a little beyond football. But having the opportunity to interview him for the podcast, and talk to him about football, it has become obvious - Steve Atwater is deserving of the Hall of Fame. Both for on the field play, and the man he is off the field.

The Denver Broncos are better represented in the 2019 NFL Pro Bowl than we initially thought it would be with four players in attendance. The original selections http://www.denverbroncosteamonline.com/ … say-jersey , rookie running back Phillip Lindsay and All-Pro edge rusher Von Miller are there, joined by long snapper Casey Kreiter who was selected by the AFC coaching staff. Cornerback Chris Harris Jr. was a late addition as an alternate. I wasn’t kidding about needing to repair a wall in my house when I was asked how I would be watching the Pro Bowl on Something Something Broncos this week, but I may have it on the background in case I hear the name of someone I actually care about in this game. "He's doing things you really don't see often. He's a great player. I'm glad he's on my team."Mahomes' left-handed toss occurred with about 3:15 remaining in the fourth quarter and was all the buzz on social media. As he scrambled to his left on third-and-5 at the Kansas City 45, Mahomes switched the ball to his other hand so pass rusher Von Miller couldn't strip it from him. Then, Mahomes lofted a perfect strike to receiver Tyreek Hill for a 6-yard gain and the first down."He actually throws better than me and I'm left handed," Hill quipped. "It was a good throw. It was a good toss. Pat, I don't even know what to say, man. Pat just does a great job of looking down the field, trusting us to stay alive and stuff like that."He's seen better from Mahomes, though."He threw the ball like 85 yards in practice," Hill said. "That probably surprised me. I've never seen a quarterback throw the ball that far."Mahomes said he sometimes throws left-handed when the QBs engage in competitions during practice. But that's about the extent of his ambidextrous ways."I did it a couple of times in college but it was to throw it away," said Mahomes, who finished 28 of 45 for 304 yards and one TD, along with running in another. "I never had thrown it to a receiver. So it was a cool deal, got the first down and got the win."He even surprised Miller, who had no idea Mahomes threw it with his opposite hand."I just felt like he was getting ready to throw it, so I was just trying to get down there and clip the ankles," Miller explained. "But I didn't know he threw it with his left hand. He's a great quarterback."It seems like Mahomes is constantly topping what he did before."I saw it when it came out of his hand, and I went, 'Oh wow,'" fullback Anthony Sherman said. "At this point, we should just trust him and know he won't put us in a bad situation. He'll find a way to get the ball to an open receiver."That was readily apparent soon after his dazzling left-handed throw. Trailing 23-20, Mahomes was called for intentional grounding, which was followed by a holding penalty on the offensive line. All of a sudden, the Chiefs faced second-and-30 at the 31.No problem for Mahomes. He threw a 23-yard completion to Demarcus Robinson and then a 35-yard strike to Demetrius Harris.See, no worries.A few plays later Hunt took it in for a 4-yard score to put the Chiefs on top. The defense took it from there to preserve the win."When you step back, you go, 'Whoa, that was pretty good,'" Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "But really you're just trying to figure out the next play that he can scramble around and make plays on."This is how much Mahomes' scrambling ability influences a game: He physically drained Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr."I had to go inside and get two IVs," Harris said. "I was just done. Just playing those extra times. He made us scramble in coverage the whole game. We couldn't sack this man. He's a hell of a player. He's a hell of a quarterback."

This team is averaging a hair more than 20 points per game but seem to be trending in the wrong direction. That direction was significantly diverted when Pete Carroll did something that fans were begging to see happen for years — firing offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell — but the corresponding move drew nearly as much ire as the decision to keep Bevell and Tom Cable for as long as he did.Carroll took a swing at change Cheap Kam Chancellor Jersey , and I applaud that as being the right move, I think, but he whiffed. He whiffed badly. I wrote about Brian Schottenheimer in January after he was hired, and even defended him as an experienced coordinator with a lifetime of learning about offenses under his famous father, but the time to defend him is over. The decisions are questionable. The results are horrible. Russell Wilson looks like the absolute worst version of himself. An offseason proclamation to commit to the run was ignored over the first two games and then forced over the last two.Even with the Seahawks gaining 171 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries in Arizona, how do the “pro-run” troops rally around the notion that rushing matters when you can average five yards per carry and yet score only 17 points with zero conversions on third down?I don’t care if Seattle runs it 50 times. I don’t care if Seattle passes it 50 times. What I think we can all agree on is that no matter how they get there, we want to see the Seahawks have an efficient offense that is able to maintain drives, convert first downs, move the ball, keep their defense fresh http://www.seahawkscheapshops.com/cheap … son-jersey , and above all else, score points. They might have scored 26 if Sebastian Janikowski had made his first two field goals, but what would have been even better: make Janikowski attempt extra points instead. That’s not happening nearly often enough. With Earl Thomas out for the foreseeable future, it’s going to potentially eat away at a team that could start to lag a bit on defense while fielding a bottom-three offense. Regardless of how talented Wilson is as a quarterback, or Doug Baldwin is as a receiver, or Bobby Wagner is as a middle linebacker, that’s not likely going to be a .500 team. They made dramatic changes in January. Maybe it’s time to start considering more big changes in October.I don’t think Carroll can or should take playcalling duties away from Schottenheimer for himself (is he capable of that? I don’t know. Would he be good at that? I don’t think so.) but playcalling should either be taken away from him or he should be forced to do things very differently. Seattle got better in 2012 after stealing some ideas from what Washington was doing with Robert Griffin III, so midseason adjustments are not only possible, they happen literally every year to some teams out there and they can have huge influences on their seasons.Unfortunately, I highly doubt that would happen. My guess is that as I’m writing this Chris Carson Jersey , Carroll and Schottenheimer are praising the run game that got five yards per carry and two touchdowns while ignoring the 5.7 yards per pass attempt, the lack of conversions on third down, the eight penalties, and the fact that they just barely beat a team that I think will finish somewhere between 0-16 and 3-13. The Seahawks are a terrible offense, a good defense that just lost one of its two best players, and a shaky kicking team. That barely got them a win on Sunday and it’ll probably send them towards a 6-10 record if they don’t change something immediately. And all of us, including Carroll, know what that change should be.

Sunday the Seattle Seahawks suffered a significant blow when they fell to the San Francisco 49ers in overtime of Week 15 www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com , however, what could prove to be an even bigger blow to the team’s postseason aspirations moving forward was the loss of right guard Jordan Simmons. Simmons was claimed off waivers from the Oakland Raiders at the end of training camp, and he has filled in admirably for D.J. Fluker both times Fluker was out with injury after Simmons’ addition to the roster. Obviously, there’s still a lot of time to see what Simmons’ status will be for Week 16 against the Kansas City Chiefs, with a playoff spot once again on the line for Seattle. However, against the 49ers on Sunday, the Hawks had to dig deep into their bag of reserve linemen, as Simmons injured his knee late in the third quarter, forcing Seattle to use its third string right guard, Ethan Pocic. That was less than perfect Seattle Seahawks Womens T-Shirt , and led to one of the most pointed critiques fans are likely to ever see of a young player from Pete Carroll. That’s the kind of criticism that Carroll typically reserves for his more seasoned veterans, and so it is quite a shock to hear him so bluntly assess the play of a second year player. Obviously, it came on the heels of a frustrating loss that could have secured the Hawks return to the playoffs, however, that doesn’t make it any less of a surprise. In any case, Bradley McDougald also left the game with a knee injury. For what is the first time I recall, Pete Carroll also let slip that the knee issue McDougald has been battling all season is patellar tendinitis. That’s not exactly good news, because that’s not an issue that is likely to get better over the next few weeks, and I’d guess that is something McDougald battles all the way through the end of the season, regardless of how deep into the playoffs the Seahawks make it. Thus Seattle Seahawks Hats , it’s on to Week 16, where the Seahawks will once again attempt to clinch a playoff spot, but in Week 16 the Hawks will need help to clinch. Against the 49ers all the Hawks needed was a win to get in because a win would have not only given the team 9 wins, it would have clinched a better conference record than the Washington Redskins. With AFC foe Kansas City on the schedule in Week 16, it takes a Seattle win and a Washington loss to secure a playoff spot. The Titans fell behind by 16 points in the first half remained behind the Jets for the first 29:24 of the second half James Carpenter Jersey , but they came out of the game with a win.Marcus Mariota hit wide receiver Corey Davis for an 11-yard touchdown with 36 seconds left to play and the Titans got a 26-22 win. The touchdown came on a third down and it was the first time all night that the Titans converted a play in that situation.Jets quarterback Josh McCown tried to lead a comeback, but Malcolm Butler picked him off to end the competitive portion of the proceedings. The drive for the game-tying points came with a couple of helping hands from the Jets. Linebacker Jordan Jenkins was called for illegal use of the hands to wipe out a sack of Mariota and cornerback Trumaine Johnson was flagged for a facemask on a play that saw Mariota run for 25 yards. The Jets were penalized 11 times for 96 yards overall and that lack of discipline has been an issue throughout their current six-game losing streak. The fouls wouldn’t have mattered if the offense could have generated touchdowns instead of five Jason Myers field goals. The only trip to the end zone came when Johnson picked off Mariota and returned the ball 31 yards for a score in the first quarter.Mariota was 20-of-35 for 282 yards and two touchdowns along with that interception. That didn’t make for a pretty afternoon of football, but he got the team 13 points in the fourth quarter to snap a two-game losing streak and keep hopes of playoff contention alive in Tennessee. Todd Bowles' days as coach of the New York Jets are numbered in many people's minds. To some fans and media Authentic Spencer Long Jersey , his time has long been up.The embattled Bowles appears likely to be among those looking for new jobs the day the NFL's regular season ends, if not sooner. That uncertainty has not affected the coach's approach, even as rumors swirl about what many deem an inevitable unhappy ending."I honestly don't worry about that at all," Bowles said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I go day by day and take my job day by day and coach the hell out of them. I don't worry about yesterday, and I don't worry about tomorrow. I honestly don't."To Bowles, it's all about the players in his locker room. Just as it has been each day for the last four years."That's my only job," the 55-year-old Bowles said. "Nothing else matters. They're younger and they haven't been through anything like this, so it's up to me to make sure we approach it the right way and learn the things we need to learn, and it gets navigated the right way, and that's my only job."There's nothing else to really lose sleep over."Not the chants from fans at home games urging ownership to fire him.Not the headlines and back pages of newspapers that are already entertaining options as his replacement. Not the endless sports talk chatter that centers around whether the Jets should have gotten rid of him two years ago or last week."No, you lose sleep when you lose and you get pissed off, but you regroup the next day or the next two days and you get back on the horse," Bowles said. "They go how I go. So the steadier I am Authentic Kelvin Beachum Jersey , the steadier they are."Bowles knows what the numbers say: He's 24-37 including 4-9 this year in almost four seasons with the Jets, who hired him in January 2015 after firing Rex Ryan. His .393 winning percentage is ahead of only Rich Kotite (.125) and Charley Winner (.391) among those who coached more than one full season with the franchise. And perhaps the most damning number of all is: zero. As in, no playoff appearances during his tenure."I just worry about: Did I do everything in my power and what can I do in my power moving forward to help us not to have these setbacks or success, or whatever we do?" Bowles said. "You look at yourself in the mirror every day, then you look at the coaches and the team and it's a constant evaluation process. And, that's every coach in the league. It's not just me. You understand that part of it."I say and get everything off my chest on Monday during the week, so I can definitely sleep at night and look myself in the mirror."If I make a mistake, I'll admit it to myself and to the team that I made a mistake, and we'll go from there."Bowles' lack of emotion during interviews and news conferences has not particularly endeared him to frustrated fans, who might also mistake that for an absence of passion."I have been a sore loser all my life and I still hate losing," Bowles said. "But there's a difference from being a player to a coach of your position to coaching the entire team. Some guys, you can rip their ass, some guys you've got to talk to http://www.newyorkjetsteamonline.com/qu … nwa-jersey , but at the end of the day, you have to bring them all back together in a roundabout way."Bowles hasn't publicly lobbied to keep his job. He's also not looking for anyone's sympathy. That's not how he has ever operated, and he's not going to start now 鈥?no matter what's said about him."In sports, there are fans," he said. "People are going to love you, people are going to hate you, and people aren't going to care if you coach or play sports. That's just part of it. That's the beauty of it. I've been in it too long to worry about anything else outside or inside or even in a roundabout way. That's ridiculous."Bowles insists he takes none of the criticism personally. He was a player for eight seasons in the league, then an assistant for several years before becoming a head coach. The ebbs and flows in personal opinions have been a constant in his professional life.So has the support of his players.Team leaders such as wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, safety Jamal Adams and defensive lineman Leonard Williams have repeatedly talked about how the players are more to blame for the team's failures than Bowles. They also point to Bowles' consistent approach and continued focus despite everything going on beyond the locker room."Whenever anybody brings up anything that's kind of going on off the field, he just makes sure the focus is right on football," Enunwa said. "That's one thing he has always done well. I mean, he has had some friends pass while he's been here and he has always maintained that sort of upbeat approach."He's still Todd, no matter what's going on around him. He's always able to stay level Womens Buster Skrine Jersey , and that's one thing you always admire about him."The players aren't naive. They know the reality of football 鈥?wins matter most. And the Jets haven't had nearly enough during Bowles' tenure. But that doesn't mean they're OK with just stumbling to the finish line."We know there's a lot of attention or whatever outside, but that's not our focus," safety Terrence Brooks said. "If that man can go up there every single day and stay true to his task of what he wants to accomplish in this league, you can't do anything but respect that."Some might say Bowles has been in a difficult position from the start of the season, with his focus on winning now while the franchise looks at developing a future led by rookie quarterback Sam Darnold. General manager Mike Maccagnan has also taken criticism for some misses in the draft and free agency. His job status is uncertain as the Jets go an eighth straight season without a postseason appearance. All of those decisions will ultimately fall on acting owner Christopher Johnson, who'll face a crucial offseason for the franchise.A six-game losing streak likely all but sealed the fate of Bowles. The Jets snapped the skid last week with a 27-23 victory at Buffalo, setting off a joyful celebration and providing a rare sense of relief.Even if it lasts just a few more weeks."I do my best and put forth what I need to put forth and you have to live with the results," Bowles said. "Nobody's had a golden life and anticipated things that they wanted and then gotten them every single time. So, it's a small storm, you don't want the storm to last that long 鈥?for six games 鈥?but it had, so we adjust from there."We came back and fought and beat Buffalo, and now we'll try to beat Houston." NEW YORK (AP) — The Jets‘ search for a new coach is kicking into high gear. The team announced Saturday it completed its interview with former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy, the third known coach to meet with New York since Todd Bowles was fired last Sunday night. The Jets met with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy on Wednesday http://www.newyorkjetsteamonline.com/st … don-jersey , and former Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase on Friday. And, they're far from done with sitting down with candidates. New York is also expected to interview Cowboys defensive backs coach/passing game coordinator Kris Richard in Dallas on Sunday and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Todd Monken early next week. ESPN reported that Monken will meet with the Jets on Tuesday after interviewing with Green Bay on Saturday and Cincinnati on Monday.McCarthy had a 125-77-2 regular-season record in 13 seasons with the Packers, and went 10-8 in the postseason — including a Super Bowl victory over Pittsburgh to cap the 2010 season. The 55-year-old coach led Green Bay to the playoffs for eight consecutive seasons spanning 2009 through 2016, a streak at the time matched only by New England. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed most of the 2017 season with a broken collarbone as the Packers finished 7-9.But, his return this season didn't translate into a postseason appearance — and it ultimately cost McCarthy his job as the Packers went 4-7-1 under him and the team replaced him with Joe Philbin on an interim basis. There were also reports that Rodgers and McCarthy didn't see eye-to-eye on playcalling in recent seasons.McCarthy is perhaps the biggest name among known popular candidates for the Jets, who have failed to reach the playoffs since the 2010 season under Rex Ryan. Whomever comes to New York will be charged with furthering the development of quarterback Sam Darnold , who had an up-and-down rookie season but finished with a solid final month after missing three games with a foot injury.McCarthy has been lauded for his work with quarterbacks, most notably toward the tail end of Brett Favre's career with the Packers and then with Rodgers, who was a two-time league MVP and set several NFL records under the coach's tutelage.McCarthy is a native of Pittsburgh who began his coaching career at Fort Hays State (1987-88) before moving on to the University of Pittsburgh (1989-92). He spent time as an NFL assistant with Kansas City (1993-98), Green Bay (1999), New Orleans (2000-04) and San Francisco (2005) — as the offensive coordinator for both the Saints and 49ers — before being hired as the Packers' coach in 2006.

The Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3) are hosting the Houston Texans (3-3) for control of the AFC South. Before the game begins Tashaun Gipson Jersey , we wanted to ask the Big Cat Country team (and you!) a simple question:“How will the Jaguars do against the Texans today?”Alfie Crow (@AlfieBCC)This is a game for the Jaguars defense to get back to sacking the quarterback and forcing turnovers, but the real concern is can the offense score points? I’m not sure they can. Texans win 13-6Ryan Day (@ryaneatscake)I don’t like this game. I don’t like the matchups on either side of the ball. The Jaguars have had problems with mobile quarterbacks who can move the pocket and I think Deshaun Watson gives them fits. And I don’t like Blake Bortles.Texans win 13-9Jon Kirland (@BCBCouch)Does the quarterback currently give anyone hope of righting this thing and beginning a run of wins like last season? I know he doesn’t for me. Until that changes, I cant in good conscience pick the Jags to win, especially with a fully healthy front seven now for Houston. The Jags defense will get a couple of needed highlights, but I think this offense is exactly how Jadeveon Clowney described.Texans win 16-9Ryan O’Bleness (@ryanobleness)While it’s still relatively early in the season, this feels like a must-win game for the Jaguars. If the Jaguars want to repeat as division champions, a win against Houston this week will go a long way as the team is currently tied with both the Texans and Tennessee Titans at 3-3. I see both offenses struggling, but I think this is finally the breakout game for Jacksonville’s pass rush against a really, really awful Houston offensive line. I can see a defensive touchdown being scored by the Jags as well.Jaguars win 20-17Brian Fullford (@iambwf)Early in the week I decided on 34-17 in favor of the Texans. Okay, this was actually within 24 hours of the face plant in Dallas. I’ve calmed down.Almost everything in me says the Texans win this 13-10. Almost everything. I just can’t see Wash and the defensive talent not making reparations for last weekend. Then there’s Blake. Houston still brings a gun in Watson, while the Jaguars bring a knife in Bortles. Sigh.My bold prediction is the defense scores to win the game.Jaguars win 13-10Filip Prus (@JaxonFil)“Good teams don’t lose three games in a row.” — Calais Campbell, maybe?Don’t ask me how the Jaguars are going to score 17 points because I don’t know. All I know is as long as Deshaun Watson plays the entire game for the Texans, they’re probably going to put up at least 13 points. If this is a must-win game for the Jaguars, they must find their way to at least 17 points some way, some how. Maybe a turnover? Pick-six? Anyone want to step up and take back some momentum that’s leaking like a deflating balloon? Do something A. J. Cann Jersey , guys. Get right.Half of the games in this series history have been decided by seven or less points. This will probably be another one.Jaguars win 17-13What do you think? Got any predictions for the Jaguars vs. Texans game? What do you think the final score will be? Let us know in the comments below! The Jacksonville Jaguars (4-10) are a four-point road underdog in Sunday’s Battle of the Sunshine State against the Miami Dolphins (7-7) at Hard Rock Stadium at 1:00pm EST. BROADCAST: For those not attending the game, we’ll have good luck charms James Lofton and Andrew Catalon on the CBS call. Here is the TV viewing map for Sunday’s game.REFEREE: Clay Martin on the whistle for SundayUNIFORM WATCH: White tops, black trousers.OpponentThe Dolphins are still right in the thick of things when it comes to the final wild card playoff spot in the AFC despite coming off a bad 41-17 loss on the road against the Minnesota Vikings. Rest assured, they will be looking for blood this week as they return home and try to earn a postseason birth and re-gain some momentum. There is a slight chance they can still win the AFC East if the New England Patriots lose both remaining games, but a loss eliminates them from playoff contention, so there is everything to play for on Sunday.Offensively, the Dolphins have faced injury adversity along the offensive line (sound familiar?) and will be starting Ted Larsen, Travis Swanson, and Jesse Davis on the interior. Hopefully, Taven Bryan can continue to build off last week’s performance to get his first sack (unless the NFL does a stat correction for the sack he should have had last week). Left tackle and former first round pick Laremy Tunsil has had his best season to date, but he is fighting through a knee injury that Yannick Ngakoue should work to take advantage of. Future Hall of Famer Frank Gore was placed on injured reserve this week, so expect a heavy dose of rookie Kalen Ballage, who notched his first career 100-yard rushing game last week, to compliment Kenyan Drake. Who could have predicted that Kalen Ballage would have a 100-yard rushing game before Leonard Fournette would? Ryan Tannehill has been steady for the most part managing games, but if you ask most Dolphins fans Youth Ronnie Harrison Jersey , they can’t wait for a new quarterback in 2019. If Tannehill can play well these next two games and get his team into the playoffs, he may earn another year as the incumbent starter heading into next season. The Dolphins aren’t known as a heavy play action team, but don’t be surprised if they dial that up this week to move the pocket for Tannehill.Defensively, the Dolphins are fairly underrated against the pass and should give this inept Jaguars air attack fits. Cam Wake and Robert Quinn have had stellar seasons applying pressure from the edges and should have their way with Ereck Flowers and Josh Wells. Honestly, Cody Kessler may die this week. Pro Bowl cornerback Xavien Howard, who had some very nasty things to say about the Jaguars this week, is trending towards playing this week despite a knee injury and should comfortably blanket Donte Moncrief. The Dolphins’ biggest weakness is their interior defensive line, and their 145.2 rushing yards per game allowed is second worst in the league after the Oakland Raiders. The Dolphins as a whole are extremely banged up heading into this game and their Wednesday injury report was more than double the size of the Jaguars’ — luckily for the Dolphins, they have an exceptional record at home and are facing a Jaguars team that feels like has waved the white flag on the 2018 season. For more information about the Dolphins, check out Ryan O’Bleness’ all-time series history and his crossover piece with Kevin Nogle of The Phinsider.StorylinesSame theme, different week. The biggest things for Jaguars fans to look forward to is roster evaluation and see which young players can step up and build some momentum to be a contributor in 2019. While this is important for guys like Quenton Meeks, Nick DeLuca, David Williams, C.J. Reavis, etc. Youth Marcell Dareus Jersey , it’s equally important for a guy like Malik Jackson. Jackson isn’t likely to be back in 2019 due to financial implications, but he is less than a year removed from a Pro Bowl season and needs to show some good production and tape these final two weeks to audition for his next employer. The Jaguars could just release Jackson, but with lots of teams forecasted to have a treasure trove of cap space in 2019, the ideal move would be to trade him for a day three pick and perhaps recoup the draft pick wasted on Carlos Hyde before the deadline. The better he plays these next two games and finishes with a spark, perhaps the more he can yield in a potential trade scenario. And then there’s the draft. Jags fans are in full tank mode at this point and studying draft order scenarios and mock drafts in great detail as the franchise looks for its first elite quarterback in its history. It is very possible that the Raiders can upset the damaged Broncos in what looks to be the team’s final home game in Oakland at the Coliseum on Monday Night Football, and the Jets have looked a little more dangerous as of late and could steal a win at home against a Packers team that is reeling. If both of those results should happen, the Jaguars are sitting at third overall heading into Week 17 and in pole position to land the quarterback of their choosing.Lastly, who is coming back next year from the coaching staff? It’s likely that Doug Marrone gets another shot in 2019 regardless of the results of these final two games, but how they lose can still change the mind of decision-makers. With lack of discipline and preparation being an enormous concern for this football team, if any player(s) lose their mind in the middle of a game with a bad personal foul penalty or if players throw a fit or get pouty on the sideline, that could be a mitigating factor to push the envelope out of Marrone’s favor. As long as the Jaguars behave themselves and show no signs of blatant quitting, he should be fine in my opinion.Key matchupsJalen Ramsey vs. Devante ParkerParker should be a go for Sunday despite a shoulder injury, and he’s not a dominant enough receiver that Ramsey will have to follow him around the field. Expect Pro Bowl cornerback Ramsey to stay on his preferred left side and lock down whoever lines up across from him, whether that’s Parker or vertical threat Kenny Stills.Yannick Ngakoue vs. Laremy TunsilNgakoue has back-to-back difficult match ups after battling exceptional left tackle Trent Williams last week. Tunsil has had an outstanding season and frankly was deserving of Pro Bowl honors, so this should be a tough challenge. Ngakoue still needs three sacks to get to double-digits on the season – will he get there? Luckily for him Barry Church Jersey , even if he doesn’t snag one this Sunday, he gets human turnstile Julien Davenport with the Texans next week.Dede Westbrook vs. Minkah Fitzpatrick/Bobby McCainDede is a star. He’s been this team’s offensive player of the year in my personal opinion, and if he ever gets the semblance of a legitimate quarterback behind center, he will take this league by storm. Westbrook was a deep threat Z receiver at Oklahoma where he earned Biletnikoff honors and quite frankly he’s been relegated to the slot this season due to the ineptitude around him and has still shown consistently. If Westbrook is in the slot this week, he’ll likely see nickel cornerback Bobby McCain and if he moves outside for some quick screens or crossers, he will likely see impressive first round rookie Minkah Fitzpatrick. Ereck Flowers vs. Robert QuinnThe audition for Ereck Flowers returning as the team’s utility swing tackle in 2019 continues this week. Flowers has been surprisingly fine since taking the starting left tackle and his durability and versatility to play both spots makes him a good candidate to return. With that said, Robert Quinn is exactly the type of speed rusher that Flowers has traditionally struggled with and needs to string together another solid performance on Sunday.David Williams vs. Kiko AlonsoIt was sad last week when a created player came in off the bench and looked better running the ball on four carries than Leonard Fournette had in twelve. Williams showed really nice patience and burst in his limited reps and earned the opportunity to play even more this upcoming week. I mentioned above that the Dolphins have the second worst run defense in the league, so hopefully Williams can show some good production.Abry Jones vs. Kenyan Drake/Kalen BallageWith Frank Gore on IR, the dynamic duo of Kenyan Drake and Kalen Ballage will need to be kept in check this week. Jones had one of his best games as a Jaguar last week against the Redskins and is another candidate to be moved in the offseason to trim some salary cap fat ($4 million hit in 2019) for a team in need of a stout nose tackle. I’m not a huge proponent of moving players who are good contributors like Jones, but if the Jaguars are looking for some more wiggle room and financial flexibility, I wouldn’t say no to a late day three pick for him. Final predictionThe Dolphins are the much better team and it’s going to be extremely difficult for this makeshift Jaguars offense to score more than 10, maybe 13 points this week on the road. Let’s just hope for no long-term injuries that can linger into the 2019 season (dodged a bullet with Ronnie Harrison last week) and some promising flashes from the young developmental players.Dolphins win 24-10.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Tennessee Titans primer: Key matchups Cheap Dede Westbrook Jersey , storylines, predictions, and more for Week 3 The Jacksonville Jaguars try to atone their winless 2017 record against the Tennessee Titans at TIAA Bank Field at 1:00pm EST.UNIFORM WATCH: White tops and teal trousers for Sunday.OpponentThe 1-1 Titans have played at an 0-2 caliber to start the season and first year head coach Mike Vrabel had to dig deep into his bag of tricks to score on a fake punt from his own territory to sneak a win against the Houston Texans last week. The Jaguars will need to be extremely conservative on special teams to make sure that this doesn’t happen, as this is really the only way I can see the Titans stealing a win this week, a la the Rams game last year.Offensively, the Titans are somewhat in shambles under first year offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur. We still don’t know whether Marcus Mariota or Blaine Gabbert will get the start this weekend, but Mariota has looked so lost in the new system that Jags fans should almost be hoping he gets the nod from a tactical aspect. There has been absolutely no chemistry with the wide receivers (especially last year’s fifth overall pick Corey Davis), and their most targeted playmaker from last season in Delanie Walker has already been sidelined for the rest of 2018 with an ankle injury. What was once the exotic smash mouth running game now actually resembles Smash Mouth singer Steven Harwell trying to tote the rock, and Derrick Henry is averaging less than three yards per carry with Dion Lewis getting the majority of snaps. Most notably, the Titans usual stalwarts at offensive tackle in Taylor Lewan (concussion) and Jack Conklin (ACL) have been sidelined due to injury, but both returned to practice this week and will return on Sunday. Yannick Ngakoue will be anxious to knock the rust out of them. Defensively, the Titans may not have top shelf personnel across all eleven positions Malik Jackson Jersey , but they have certainly taken on the gritty persona of their head coach. The unit plays hard and could be boosted with rookie linebackers Rashaan Evans and Harold Landry playing meaningful snaps after being hampered by injuries. Along the defensive line, Jurrell Casey has been a problem for this franchise but has yet to face former first team All-Pro guard in Andrew Norwell. Blake Bortles will need to stay away from throwing at impressive free safety Kevin Byard, who had eight interceptions in 2017.For more information on the Titans, check out Ryan O’Bleness’ crossover piece with Jimmy Morris of Music City Miracles.StorylinesWith last week’s signature win against New England, the Jaguars have now won their last seven consecutive home games, and Blake Bortles has become the first Jaguars quarterback to begin the season 2-0 since 2006. Midweek reports indicated that there were still around 5,000 tickets still available for purchase, and the team will need our support to give the players the home field advantage that they thrive off of:Another popular storyline that has surfaced among the fan base this week is whether or not the Jaguars offense is better off without Leonard Fournette, and a general feeling exists that Fournette hamstrings the creativity of Nathaniel Hackett and his personnel packaging and play calling. We’ll see this week, but Bortles’ answering of the bell last week has inspired increased confidence from his teammates and the rest of the media, and we may have seen a critical turning point for the offense. If it were up to me, I would study the different ways that Sean McVay uses last year’s AP Offensive Player of the Year Toddy Gurley and use Fournette Youth Logan Cooke Jersey , a much better pass catcher than given credit for, in a similar capacity. Most importantly, a two game lead in the division is at stake and a win could really help the Jaguars start to pull away as the leader in the AFC South after just three games. The Colts have a tough match up this week against a Philadelphia Eagles team with Carson Wentz returning and the Texans square off against a hungry and winless New York Giants team, so this could really give the Jaguars some wiggle room which could allow them to rest some key veteran starters late into the season if they can clinch the division early.Key matchupsJosh Wells vs. Brian OrakpoOne of the few match ups that worry me, Wells will need to step up in the wake of Cam Robinson’s season-ending knee injury and give Blake the time he needs in the pocket. Wells played exceptionally well in spot duty last week but the Titans now have a week to prepare for him and Brian Orakpo is the type of veteran pass rusher who can exploit Wells’ weaknesses with a variety of rush moves.Andrew Norwell vs. Jurrell CaseyBriefly referenced above, Norwell will need to earn his big game check this week going against the Titans’ best defensive player. Casey has been a thorn in the Jaguars side for the last several years and Norwell will have to flash that mean streak in the run game to move Casey off his spot and create some seals for Fournette.Keelan Cole vs. Malcolm ButlerKeelan Cole turned the heads of everybody in the league last week with his spectacular one handed catch, but his job doesn’t get much easier this week going against Malcolm Butler. Butler plays a much more physical brand of football than Stephon Gilmore or Eric Rowe did last week and he will have to show his strength to beat press coverage and win at the point of attack. Expect the Titans to play lots of man press coverage and speedster Adoree Jackson to shadow Dede Westbrook on the other side. Yannick Ngakoue vs. Taylor Lewan/Jack ConklinNgakoue has zero sacks and fans are overreacting about it. Taylor Lewan won’t be quite himself after getting a little Windmill Wisdom knocked into him by Andre Branch in week one and Yannick has absolutely owned Conklin all the way back to the Maryland/Michigan State days. Nsackoue comes back this week, folks. Blaine Gabbert vs. Jaguars FansI mentioned earlier that Mariota may be a more attractive option from a tactical perspective for the Jaguars, but where’s the fun in tactics? Not only are Jaguars fans scorned by the aloof persona and lack of ROI from Gabbert’s era in Jacksonville, but there is extra salt in this wound after losing on the road to Gabbert’s Arizona Cardinals last season. If Gabbert does play, the roar of the crowd whenever he gets hit or knocked down will be deafening. Even if he doesn’t play, I would ask the equipment manager for some earmuffs or noise-cancelling headphones sitting on the bench if I were him. He don’t want this smoke.Final predictionIf it were any other team outside of the Titans Youth Cam Robinson Jersey , I would be incredibly leery of a hangover following an epic win like the one they had this past week against Brady and the Pats. Due to the animosity woven into the fabric of this rivalry, I sincerely doubt that this will be the case. This team has gone on record to say that the Titans were simply more physical than them in both losses last season, and I fully expect the defense to punch them in the mouth regardless of takes that first snap under center. This team doesn’t forget. This team will embarrass you.Jaguars win 35-13. The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed running back Thomas Rawls, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.Depth was a big issue at running back for the Jaguars in the 2018 season and with the way things were trending, would be an even bigger problem in 2019. There is some thought that the Jaguars could move on from both Leonard Fournette and Carlos Hyde this offseason and signing someone like Rawls won’t stop that thought.Originally signing with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2015, he had a successful rookie season with over 800 rushing yards, averaging over five yards per carry. His rookie season ended with a broken ankle and his 2016 season was derailed by a broken fibula, but did have a monster game in the playoffs against the Detroit Lions. His 2017 season regressed again and didn’t do much with the New York Jets in 2018.The signing makes sense from a depth perspective and someone who has at least shown to be productive in spurts. It also makes sense if the Jaguars are considering hiring Darrell Bevell as their offensive coordinator, as Rawls spent a few seasons in his offense.

I really don’t care who we beat, and the next season will start soon enough.”St. Louis (43-28-6, 92 points) currently holds the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference, one point back of Anaheim (93). I think it would be great for our fans (to clinch the division), they’ve been awesome all year. To get the win and clinch the Pacific would be awesome. Whoever we face, we just need to play well and I’m sure tomorrow is going to be a good game.”Patrik Berglund, Brayden Schenn and Chris Thorburn scored for the Blues. Allen, who is now 8-1-1 in his last 10 starts, made 22 saves.”We fought hard. This is really good hockey team and we knew it was going to be a close game, so not surprised to see it go to overtime, you get into 3-on-3 hockey and anything can happen out there,” St. Louis coach Mike Yeo said. ”There are some things that we have to be a little bit better at … I think we could’ve moved the puck a little bit better tonight. Credit to them, they check well, and they pressure you hard.”But it was the Blues setting the tone early, when Alexander Steen fed Berglund from behind the net, and he smacked home his 13th of the season.Karlsson tied the game with his 41st of the season, a short-handed breakaway courtesy of a perfect pass from Cody Eakin. Marchessault gave Vegas a brief 2-1 lead with a stroke from a side angle.Schenn tied the game later in the period when he took a pass from Jaden Schwartz and beat a shielded Subban from the right circle. After a rather quiet period Edmonton Oilers Hoodies Authentic , Tomas Tatar tapped the puck to Erik Haula, who touch-passed to Neal, who snapped a 12-game drought by going top shelf to beat Allen and give Vegas a 3-2 lead with 3:25 left in the second.Scottie Upshall’s pass from behind the net found Thorburn creeping at the doorstep and the right wing slipped it through Subban’s five-hole to knot the game at 3 with 13:46 left.”Overall, they played really well, they’re working hard and they’re finding a way to win hockey games,” Gallant said. ”We got down early, but I love the way we played. We competed the whole 60 minutes. We played a hell of a hockey game tonight against a real good team.”NOTESSchwartz has 21 points in 27 games since returning from a lower-body injury on Jan. 25. … Neal is now one game from playing in his 700th career game and five points shy from his 500th career point. … Marchessault is one game away from his 200th career game.UP NEXTSt. Louis: Visits Arizona on Saturday.Vegas: Hosts San Jose on Saturday. After going 0-2-2 in the four games following a 10-game winning streak, the Buffalo Sabres have had a chance to take a break from games the past three days It also meant they could get in a couple practices, which were limited during their recent cramped schedule. In their first-game since an overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, which followed a loss to the Predators in Nashville the night before, the Sabres will play host to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday afternoon.Article continues below ...The Tuesday game marked the completion of a stretch of 11 games in 19 days for Buffalo.“A lot of times you lose practice time and we understand that,” Sabres left winger Conor Sheary told the Buffalo News Friday after the Sabres completed their first back-to-back practice days since mid-November. “So, when you get these kind of days here, you want to take advantage of them, really work on your special teams and your five-on-five play and get better at them. It’s definitely good for us.”“It’s been refreshing,” Buffalo defenseman Zach Bogosian said. “It’s good to see a little slowdown of pace in the schedule. It doesn’t mean the games are going to be any less intense but it’s nice to get a few days between games and throw a day off in there too.”The Sabres defeated the Flyers 5-2 Nov. 21 at home.Buffalo (17-8-4) will be without goaltender Carter Hutton for the game Saturday. He is out with an upper-body injury. The injury apparently came during the 2-1 loss in Nashville.Scott Wedgewood has been called up from Rochester of the American Hockey League to serve as Linus Ullmark’s backup on Saturday.“We’re just being cautious with it Edmonton Oilers Hats Authentic , giving him a maintenance day yesterday,” Housley said. “He’s still day to day and he hasn’t really skated. We want to get him a practice or some ice before (he returns to the lineup).” The Flyers will be starting a five-game road trip in Buffalo. They recalled forward Phil Varone from Lehigh Valley of the AHL for the opener of the trip. He is leading the Phantoms with 17 assists and has 11 goals in 22 games. The 28 points rank him second in the AHL. Varone has scored seven goals and added five assists in his past nine games. The Flyers (11-12-3) are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center after Travis Sanheim scored twice in the third period for Philadelphia to tie the game. The Flyers are 2-5-2 in their past nine games.“It’s disappointing the way it ended,” Philadelphia coach Dave Hakstol said. “That’s a hard way to lose the extra point.”The Flyers hope to change their fortunes on their trip. They are 6-5-1 on the road this season, compared to 5-7-2 at home.“What the exact science is, I don’t know,” Hakstol said. “But for the most part, everybody’s rink is pretty similar. And for a team on the road your live is pretty simplified. It’s about your teammates and hockey.”“It’s nice to play on the road,” Flyers center Scott Laughton said. “You just play hockey. You don’t have any other worries. It’s good for team building, too. It brings you closer. Lots of dinners and stuff like that. Lots of hanging out.”The Flyers are hoping that the upcoming trip works out as well as a similar one did last December. It turned their season around and they had the fifth-best record in the NHL from that point and made the playoffs.“You ask any team, they love getting out on the road together,” Hakstol said. “It simplifies life a little bit. It’s always a good chance for the team to be around each other, to hang out and you always get a little bit tighter when you go through some of the challenges on the road. It’s about your teammates and hockey.”
